Movies which are made on a big budget certainly have an upper hand but many times even money cannot guarantee the film’s success or how well made the film turns out to be. Then there have also been some films which made a mark despite their comparatively smaller budgets. For instance, a film like ‘Paranormal Activity’ was made on a shoestring but the horror film eventually gained a cult status amongst horror movie buffs.

The criminally underrated survival thriller movie follows the story of a married couple, who decide to undertake a scuba diving adventure. Stranded alone in the sea and far-off from the land, the two find themselves amidst a looming threat of sharks dangerously circling them underneath.

Get Out, 2017 (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video)

Helmed by Jordan Peele, the psychological horror movie features Daniel Kaluuya in the role of an African American photographer named Chris, who accepts his lover Rose’s invitation to meet her family. But his perfect getaway is seriously ruined after Chris begins to experience the family’s eerily eccentric behaviour towards their inter-racial romantic relationship.

The Invisible Man, 2020 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video – Rent)

The movie starts off with a woman (Elisabeth Moss) running away from the clutches of her rich and controlling boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). Later, she learns that her boyfriend has committed suicide. But after a series of strange events, she begins to suspect that her supposedly deceased boyfriend has somehow come back to haunt her. When nobody believes her, she decides to fight back against an entity she can’t even see.

The Blair Witch Project, 1999 (Streaming on Lionsgate Play)

The horror film follows three students who venture into a forest to make a documentary on the Blair Witch legend, but never come back. A year later, their spine-chilling camera footage is found, showing the viewers about their mysterious disappearance. The film was shot using the found footage filmmaking technique.

Hush, 2016 (Streaming on Netflix)

Directed by Mike Flanagan, it’s a slasher horror movie that follows a deaf-mute horror writer’s (played by Kate Siegel) desperate attempt to escape from the clutches of a masked stalker while living a secluded life in the woods.
