5 Must Watch Female Led Regional Movies That Will Leave You in Awe

The release of “Miss India” is around the corner. The story of a strong female lead and how she turns her life completely is the highlight of the movie. We all love such movies. Such movies are a delight to watch and India has plenty to offer. Yes, we might sometimes overshadow the female lead with the hero-ness of the male lead but these fierce women don’t need any men to push them up the ladder. They have done it and they will do it all over again.

Here’s a list of fierce female-centric South Indian movies one should watch if you want something that can move you to the core.

Uyare (Netflix):

Uyare received widespread critical acclaim when it released around the world. The subject it touched was very sensitive but definitely touched everyone’s heart. The story of a girl who dreams to be a pilot one ends up being attacked with acid. Her life is turned upside down and her dream of being a pilot is lost, this is when she is given an opportunity to turn things around her as she is offered the position of a cabin crew in a flight. The road isn’t smooth as she comes across a lot of mishaps but by the end she at least puts her fear aside and saves a life when she lands a flight down successfully. The movie stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas in lead roles.

Majili (Amazon Prime Video):

The movie stars Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Akkineni, Divyansha Kaushik in lead roles. Though the movie is completely based on the lead actor’s role, the character played by Samantha is strong and powerful in its own way. Supporting and loving a person who you know won’t love you back takes courage, adopting the child of the girl, who your husband once loved and even loving him immensely and deciding to move away because you know you won’t get the love back takes even more courage. Majili shows the story of love from a woman’s point of view but not many will notice that.

U-Turn (Amazon Prime Video):

U Turn is a crime thriller that stars Samantha Akkineni as Rachana, an intern in one of the leading newspapers and covers the story about a certain incident that occurs only at a certain point in the city. Things start getting weird and when the police get involved, Rachana follows them single handedly wanting to figure what actually is going wrong. It takes the Police Inspector and a Newspaper Intern duo to turn around things and be bought justice. Power packed performance by Samantha Akkineni, Aadhi Pinishetty, Bhumika Chawla steal the show for everyone

Take Off (Disney+ Hoststar):

The story is based on a real-life incident of the rescue of Indian nurses that were stuck in Iraq due to ISIS attack back in 2014. Sameera, played by Parvarthy is one of the nurses stuck in Iraq and when things go wrong, Sameera fights tooth and nail to bring back and keep everyone safe. The intensive portrayal of Sameera by Parvathy made this movie one of her best works as it received many accolades not only in India but around the world.

Mahanati (Amazon Prime Video):

The film is based on the legendary South Indian actress Savitri, who is played by Keerthy Suresh. The movie follows the journey of Savitri into fame and how she dealt with all the tragic incidents in all life and in the end, fell prey to addiction. Keerthy Suresh was criticized for being chosen as Savitri but she outdid everyone’s expectations and this movie not only successfully portrayed a story of a strong, fierce woman but also made Keerthy, someone to look out for, again.
