5 Must-Watch Hyperlink / Multi-Linear Movies to Stream on OTT

5 Must-Watch Hyperlink / Multi-Linear Movies to Stream on OTT

To help our readers enjoy the weekend to the fullest, we have compiled a fresh binge-watch list comprising five must-watch ‘Hyperlink’ movies (Indian and foreign) which you can stream on various Indian OTT platforms.

Hyperlink is a word made popular by film critic Roger Ebert while reviewing the film ‘Syriana’ in 2005. Hyperlink cinema is a multi-linear narrative style where multiple and often parallel storylines and their characters are in some way linked to each other and which may interweave, intersect, or diverge later in the movie. We hope you’ll enjoy binge watching these movies as much as we have enjoyed making this list for you.

Bombay March 12, 2011 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Manorama Max, MX Player)

Helmed by Babu Janardhanan, the Malayalam language film focuses on the abominable bomb blasts that happened in Mumbai on 12th March 1993. The movie features veteran actor Mammootty in the role of a sweeper who attracts the attention of the cops for the mis-happenings in the city as he is related to a man who was suspected to be involved with the bombings.

Babel, 2006 (Streaming on Lionsgate Play)

Directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu, the multi-narrative psychological drama features four interconnected stories and characters set in different parts of the world like Morocco, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. The stories include a married couple (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) on a vacation gone wrong, a Moroccan herder and his sons who are given a gun, a deaf Japanese teenage girl, and a Mexican house help who takes two kids across the border for her son’s marriage.

Super Deluxe, 2019 (Streaming on Netflix, Aha Video)

The critically acclaimed film narrates parallel stories featuring a transgender woman, a disloyal wife, an angry son, a distressed couple, and a religious man. How these characters from different walks of life find themselves in impossible situations and how these stories converge on a fateful day forms the film’s crux. The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Ramya, amongst others.

The French Dispatch, 2021 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

The movie has been helmed by ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ director Wes Anderson. It revolves around several plotlines based on stories published in the French Dispatch magazine. The stories range from an imprisoned artist, student protests, and a senior cop’s son’s kidnapping, etc. The film boasts a talented cast that includes Frances McDormand, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, Christopher Waltz, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, and Elizabeth Moss.

Hereafter, 2010 (Google Play, YouTube, Apple – Rent)

This endearing film is one of those rare, underrated, and soulful supernatural movies which have their hearts in the right place. It’s a beautifully told story directed by legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood. The film follows three parallel plotlines of that of a blue-collar American with a unique supernatural ability (Matt Damon), a French journalist (Cécile de France), and a London schoolboy (Frankie and George McLaren) and how their lives intersect during the course of the film. A must-watch, emotional film for cinephiles, irrespective of the genre.
