Vivek Agnihotri’s eagerly anticipated film ‘The Kashmir Files’ will release in theatres tomorrow. The film revolves around the exodus of Kashmiris Hindus during the 1990s period due to the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. Roja (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, Sun NXT, MX Player, Aha Video)
‘Roja’ is regarded as one of veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s career-best films. The film revolves around a simple but strong-willed Tamil village girl Roja (Madhoo), who gets married to RAW cryptologist Rishi (Arvind Swamy). Their blissful married life is short-lived as her husband is kidnapped by militants during a covert assignment in Kashmir. Roja makes desperate efforts to get back her husband.
Yahaan (Streaming on MX Player)
The beautifully made film was ‘Sardar Udham’ helmer Shoojit Sircar’s directorial debut. Set amidst the backdrop of the Kashmir turmoil, the film’s story follows an army Captain Aman (Jimmy Sheirgill) who falls for a local Kashmiri woman Adaa (Minissha Lamba) while posted for a mission in Kashmir. Whether their relationship will be accepted by society forms the film crux.
Shaurya (Streaming on Zee5)
Narrated in the context of J&K insurgency, ‘Shaurya’ is an intense courtroom drama that follows a carefree Indian Army lawyer (Rahul Bose), who must defend an Army officer (Deepak Dobriyal) accused of killing his superior (Pankaj Tripathi). Kay Kay Menon’s performance as Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh is amongst the best performances witnessed in Indian cinema.
Haider (Streaming on Netflix, Zee5)
Helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj and set against the backdrop of the Kashmir conflict of 1995, ‘Haider’ is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Hamlet’. When a young student (Shahid Kapoor) learns about his father’s disappearance, he returns home to Kashmir. But his mother’s (Tabu) strange proximity with his uncle (Kay Kay Menon) upsets him. He sets out to avenge his father’s death after a mysterious man (Irrfan Khan) informs him that his uncle is responsible for his father’s murder.
Mission Kashmir (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video)
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film featured Hrithik Roshan as an orphan Altaf, who is adopted by a senior cop Inayat Khan (Sanjay Dutt), and his wife (Sonali Kulkarni) after Inayat accidentally Altaf’s parents in a crossfire. When Altaf finds it out later, he becomes a terrorist and decides to exact revenge on his stepfather. The film also featured Preity Zinta and Jackie Shroff in important roles.
