There is an old adage “Truth is stranger than fiction”. Well, it is not only stranger but many times it’s even more interesting than fiction. The same holds true in the case of movies that are based on real-life stories and incidents. This article is a follow-up to our last week’s list (see link below) and we have handpicked for our readers another list of five more must-watch Indian and foreign movies based on real-life which you can watch on the Netflix OTT platform.
It’s a biographical drama helmed by living legend Clint Eastwood. The story revolves around the titular protagonist – a pilot named Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (played by Tom Hanks), who makes an emergency landing on the Hudson River when his plane malfunctions after hitting a flock of birds. The emergency landing saves many lives and makes him a hero, but the pilot must face a serious investigation regarding the incident.
Directed by Shaad Ali, the sports film is based on real-life Hockey player Sandeep Singh (played by Diljit Dosanjh), who was a penalty corner specialist. The inspiring story narrates how he first became a successful sportsman but then faces a devasting accident and then how he makes a glorious comeback through sheer grit and determination. ‘Soorma’ also featured Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in important roles.
When eleven Israeli athletes are killed by a Palestinian terrorist group at the Munich Olympics in 1972, the authorities assemble a five-member team led by Mossad agent Avner Kaufman (Eric Bana). Their mission is to target and eliminate those responsible for the Munich massacre. Helmed by Steven Spielberg, the film also featured Daniel Craig in an important role.
Helmed by talented filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, ‘Talvar’ is based on the double murder case of a teenage girl and the family servant. The film had received enormous acclaim for its adept direction and lead performances by Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Neeraj Kabi, among other filmmaking parameters.
Directed by David Fincher, the mystery thriller movie revolves around the manhunt for the unidentified serial killer named Zodiac, who had terrorized the Northern California region in the 1960s and 1970s period. The film follows the efforts undertaken by a cartoonist (Jake Gyllenhaal), a journalist (Robert Downey Jr.), and two cops (Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards) to identify the culprit, who teases the authorities using cryptic clues.
