5 Must-Watch Movies Produced by Karan Johar to Watch on OTT

Immensely popular and successful Indian filmmaker Karan Johar has turned 50 today. On this occasion, we have compiled for our readers a list of five must-watch films produced / co-produced (but not directed) by the multi-talented and charismatic filmmaker which you can stream on various Indian OTT platforms.

Wake Up Sid (Streaming on Netflix)

Ayan Mukerji made his directorial debut in the year 2009 with ‘Wake Up Sid’. The film features the unusual lead pair of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma. Its plot revolves around Sid, a wealthy and carefree college student from Mumbai and his beautiful relationship with Aisha – a sensible, aspiring writer from Kolkata. Despite their disparate personalities, how they help each other during tough times forms the film’s crux. The movie also featured Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak, and Rahul Khanna.

Kapoor & Sons (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Voot)

Helmed by Shakun Batra, the endearing family drama revolves around the titular Kapoor family living in Coonoor. The plotline follows two estranged brothers Arjun (Sidharth Malhotra) and Rahul (Fawad Khan) who visit their 90-year-old ailing grandfather (Rishi Kapoor) on his birthday. The story takes an interesting turn when they develop a relationship with the same girl (Alia Bhatt) but there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Dear Zindagi (Rent on Google Play, YouTube, Apple iTunes)

The story revolves around a successful albeit unhappy cinematographer (Alia Bhatt) who is going through a rough phase in her life. Her life changes for the good when she encounters an unconventional and charming psychologist (Shahrukh Khan), who transforms her perspective towards life. The feel-good film was helmed by Gauri Shinde (Director – English Vinglish).

Ittefaq (Streaming on Netflix)

Somewhat inspired by Yash Chopra’s 1969 film of the same name, the mystery thriller follows a cop Dev Verma (Akshaye Khanna) who is investigating a double murder case. The only murder witnesses are a successful writer Vikram Sethi (Siddharth Malhotra) and a beautiful but mysterious housewife Maya (Sonakshi Sinha). But they are also the prime suspects in the murder case. The cop must navigate through the web of lies in order to bring the culprit to justice.

Raazi (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

Based on Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel ‘Calling Sehmat’ and set before the events of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, ‘Raazi’ revolves around a Kashmiri woman turned RAW agent Sehmat (Alia Bhatt), who is trained and sent on an undercover mission to Pakistan. She marries an Army man Iqbal (Vicky Kaushal) and is tasked with transmitting critical information to India. Things further complicate when she actually falls in love with her husband. The film was directed by Meghna Gulzar and also featured Rajit Kapoor and Jaideep Ahlawat in important roles.
