Every anime fan lover or animated movie love or any Japanese culture enthusiast is well aware of Studio Ghibli, its movies, and the beauty it holds. There is a specialty in the movies made by Studio Ghibli, whoever watches them always gets hooked to them as they share a piece of life through their animation. The best part of the Ghibli movies and animations is that they don’t base their movies around handsome princes, beautiful dainty princesses. They have movies from all walks of life and even the ones riddled with fantasy will end up teaching you something. Though we cannot compile an entire list of the movies and how good they are, here are some best Studio Ghibli movies you can find on Netflix.

Spirited Away (2001):

The basic plot of Spirited Away can be put such that, a little girl who gets lost in an unknown world of spirits, in an effort to get back to her parents by working in a bathhouse. She comes across various spirits from the spirit world as they pay their visit to the bathhouse. Spirited Away introduces one of the most famous characters in the Japanese Animation world, “No Face”. This beautiful masterpiece has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and many more accolades. This is regarded as one of the best-animated movies made in history.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013):

Another Ghibli hit is The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, a moving story about the relation of a daughter and her and the unfulfilled love. This movie strikes so many emotional cords all together that it is hard to keep up with our emotions. The story is said to be inspired from the very famous Japanese literary tale, “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter” and is one of the most expensive Japanese animated movies till 2020. Watch it and do keep a box of tissue by your side, your eyes will for sure tear up.

Only Yesterday (1991):

A slow-paced Ghibli movie, this is a story of a young unmarried girl who takes a trip to the countryside outside of the bustling city she lives in. This movie will reel in every girl who watches it as it flows through the very crucial dilemmas and topics one goes through in life. Like a trip down memory lane, the movie focuses on various issues like puberty, adolescent period, girl problems, first love troubles, and frustrating math equations. All are shown in this movie as one reminisces the beautiful yet troublesome phase of a woman’s life.

Pom Poko (1994):

This Ghibli movie speaks a lot about environmental issues, animal endangerment, and extinction, and habitat destruction. Famous Japanese folklore animal, “tanuki”, is the highlight of this movie. Their protests against the humankind who were destroying the habitats they lived in were shown in a very light-hearted, comedic manner yet something that could leave an impact on everyone’s mind as they watch the movie. The message that was to be delivered through the movie has been quite well received in the world, amongst the people.

My Neighbour Totoro (1988)

This movie was regarded as a traditional anime and has been one of the most famous Japanese animated movies that introduced the very famous character “totoro” into the world. This movie is considered to be one of Miyazaki’s classics which is a must-watch when one starts watching Ghibli movies. Even though it is considered a children’s movie, this is loved by every age group that has watched. The journey follows the lives of two young girls and their fuzzy next-door neighbor “totoro”. It is voted as the fifth best-animated movie of all time.
