As per statistics thriller movies, especially suspense thrillers, are the most watched and it’s not a surprise. Such movies make the entire movie experience better! They keep you on the edge of your seats and keep you guessing till the end.

The Crooked House (2017)
The Crooked House is a book adaptation based on bestselling author Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name. The movie received mixed responses but is definitely worth a watch. The plot revolves around the murder of a multi millionaire, who allegedly dies of a heart attack. Unconvinced of heart attack being the reason behind his death, the victim’s granddaughter Sophia approaches detective Hayward, private investigator and her former lover. Hayward takes on the case only to find out that everyone is a suspect in that dysfunctional family, including Sophia, and poison is what killed the wealthy tycoon.
The Guilty (2021)
This recent release is the remake of a Danish film of the same name. The Guilty stars Jake Gyllenhaal! Is Jake not reason enough to watch this movie?
Just in case you’re not convinced yet, wait till you hear the plot. An anxious LAPD officer, Joe, working at a 911 call center answers a call from a woman who has been kidnapped. In an attempt to get all relevant details from this woman, Joe discovers that her abductor is somebody she is familiar with. He alerts the California Highway Patrol about the van the woman is being carried in, but they fail to locate it. Soon, Joe realises that this case is not what it looks like. Meanwhile, he has his own court hearing the next day about a murder that happened a few months ago.
The Call (2020)
Originally scheduled for a theatrical release, The Call was released globally on Netflix due to COVID restrictions. In recent times, Korean talents have made their mark in the entertainment industry and this movie is another such piece. It is a story about 28 year old Seo-yeon in 2019, who travels to her sick mother’s house. There, she finds an old phone and an old diary belonging to Young-sook, another 28 year old girl but in 1999. The phone rings and Seo-yeon connects to Young-sook. These two women talk to each other on the same phone, in the same house but 20 years apart. This call between the present and past changes everything around when they try to meddle in each other’s lives.
The Invisible Guest (2016)
This Spanish thriller was a hit when it was released and currently has three remakes. The story revolves around Adrian Doria, a successful businessman with a perfect life. Soon his perfect life comes falling down when he finds himself in a closed room with his lover’s corpse by his side. Being accused of murder, he takes the help of a credible lawyer Virginia Goodman but Adrian and Virginia have only three hours to come up with an undefeatable defence. In this race against time, Virginia is convinced that she is not being provided with the entire truth. In an attempt to get to the roots of this murder, she forces Adrian to answer all questions with honesty. If he is not guilty, who entered a closed room? Which side of the story is the truth? Who was the invisible guest?
The Room (2015)
The Room performed well at box office. It received several nominations and awards and was also praised by the critics. The story is about a mother-son duo, Jack and Joy (aka Ma) who have been confined to a 10 by 10 cubicle by Old Nick. Ma has dedicated her entire life for the well being of her 5 year old son (who is the child of Ma and Nick, born out of rape) and has created a different world inside this room. She has convinced Jack that whatever he reads about the world in books – animals, houses, trees – is not true, only fictional. But Jack’s curiosity increases with age and his mother devises an escape plan. Will their freedom actually set them free? Is there a life beyond the room? Will the ‘real world’ be the scariest adventure for Jack?
