It’s the weekend and we’re back again with yet another useful OTT binge-watch list for you. We know it’s a difficult task to browse through all OTT platforms to shortlist and watch films of a particular genre – and that too which you haven’t seen. So, for all the diehard fans of the thriller genre, we have compiled a list of five relatively underrated yet must watch Indian thriller movies which you can stream on various Indian OTT platforms this weekend.
Kappela, 2020 (Streaming on Netflix)
The romantic thriller follows a middle class and simple girl Jessy (Anna Ben), who develops romantic feelings for an auto rickshaw driver Vishnu (Roshan Matthew) after an accidental phone call. She decides to meet him at Kozhikode, but an unexpected encounter with a stranger thwarts the plan.
Chotushkone, 2014 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
Helmed by Srijit Mukherji, the Bengali mystery thriller revolves around how four filmmakers join hands to make a movie consisting of four separate stories with one common thematic connection: death. And all that while dealing with their personal differences with each other. The film features Aparna Sen, Parambrata Chatterjee, Chiranjeet, and Gautam Ghose in pivotal roles.
Karthik Calling Karthik, 2010 (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video)
Karthik (Farhan Akhtar) is an under confident and depressed employee who works at a construction company. One day, he receives a call from a mysterious person after which he experiences an extremely positive change in his life. He instantly gets a promotion besides getting the girl (Deepika Padukone) he secretly loves. Everything was going fine until one day, the mysterious man on the phone gets angry with Karthik and his life turns upside down.
Manorama: Six Feet Under, 2007 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Lionsgate Play)
This slow burning yet intriguing mystery thriller movie revolves around a suspended engineer (Abhay Deol), who is approached by a woman named Manorama to investigate her husband. When Deol agrees to help, he soon gets embroiled in a web of deceits and lies. This is an underrated non-mainstream film that did not become a box-office blockbuster probably because it was ahead of its time and an acquired taste.
Ugly, 2013 (Streaming on Lionsgate Play)
The dark and disturbing thriller revolves around the kidnapping of a ten-year-old girl of a divorced couple. The film starts off with the girl getting kidnapped from the car of her biological father (Rahul Bhat), who is a struggling actor. The kidnapping case is investigated by the girl’s stepfather and senior cop (Ronit Roy). In a race against time to find the missing girl, the character’s darker sides are revealed during the investigation. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the movie also features Vineet Kumar Singh and Tejaswini Kolhapure in important roles.
