5 Offbeat Romantic Films To Watch If You Loved Sita Ramam!

5 Offbeat Romantic Films To Watch If You Loved Sita Ramam!

The recently released Telugu movie Sita Ramam is undoubtedly one of the best films of the year. If we ignore the bundled controversies and problems then it was celebrated well by the audience. But if it sparked the romantic temptations inside you then make sure you check out these 5 films on OTT.

Laila Majnu (2018)- ZEE5
The story of Laila Majnu is not new and has been adapted several times but the 2018 edition of Laila Majnu says that the story is irrespective of time. It happened centuries ago and even happens now.

Thus, Laila Majnu is the modern retelling of epic romance in Kashmir. The leads by Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwari gave impeccable performances and the soundtrack was too good to miss.

But, let us also tell you that the man behind this project was Imtiaz Ali because that would be enough to express the depth of the film.

Lootera (2013) – Hotstar/Jio Cinema
The movie is available free on both Hotstar and Jio Cinema and also on Netflix and Prime Video with a subscription.

The film starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha is based on O’ Henry’s short story The Last Leaf.

The film is extremely minimalist, gentle, and silent in its telling and yet pierces your heart. It is undoubtedly an amazingly directed movie and deserves to be watched. Don’t expect a typical SRK-type love story in this film because you will be terribly disappointed.

Highway (2014) – Hotstar
This is not typically a romantic film, to begin with. But if you notice Imtiaz Ali films then the character development happens due to love. In this love story, Alia Bhatt falls for a guy who kidnaps her and also feels safe with him instead of being at home.

Highway shatters all your notions of the ideal family and ideal love. It must be on the watchlist of every cinephile.

Guzaarish (2010) – YouTube VOD
The film starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was downright rejected by the audience because it went above their head.

After all, they couldn’t see a hero who is quadriplegic and a beloved who is willing to kill his own lover. There are many questions about life that this movie raises but two people and their silent love story is something that needs the patience to appreciate.

Lamhe (1991) – Prime Video
If you think that Yash Chopra’s romantic films were reserved only for Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan then think again.

Because this extremely complex love story by the late master filmmaker is too underrated to be known by the masses. Even the superstardom of Sridevi couldn’t make people aware of the film’s greatness because 1991 was too early.

In this movie, Pooja falls for Viren who is much older than her and Viren even reciprocates it. But, Pooja is the daughter of Viren’s former beloved and this is the complexity. However unconventional it may be, cinematically, Lamhe is unskippable.
