5 Reasons Why Dune 2 Looks Better Than Part One

5 Reasons Why Dune 2 Looks Better Than Part One

Dune: Part Two is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2024. After numerous failed attempts to properly adapt Frank Herbert’s popular sci-fi novel, Denis Villeneuve came up with Dune: Part One in 2021. The first part emerged as the most faithful adaptation of Herbert’s work. It even performed amazingly in theatres worldwide, earning over $400 million globally during the COVID-19 regulations. Villeneuve’s storytelling abilities in the first film have made fans believe that Dune 2 will be better. Here’s how!

Zendaya’s Chani to receive more significance

Zendaya had a limited role in Part One as Chani, Paul’s love interest and a Fremen. She constantly appears in Paul’s visions in the first film and makes an actual appearance during the final moments. Based on Paul’s visions, one can easily conclude that Chani will play an important role in Paul’s journey in Dune 2. Zendaya is one of the most talented actresses of this generation. Giving her more screen time will be beneficial for the second part.

Dune 2 will provide a sense of closure

Part One was a brilliant start to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise. But it covered only half of Herbert’s 1965 novel. Yes, the film looks outstanding in almost every department. However, its overall narrative appears a bit strange as we get no actual sense of closure in the end. In other words, the movie does not work as a whole. So, we should expect to get a proper closure or conclusion at the end of Dune 2.

Gurney returns

Dune 2’s promotional clips prove that Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck is alive. No one knows what really happened to him in the first film, but his return will mean a lot to Paul in the second part as he is the protagonist’s mentor and a former weapons master of House Atreides.

Dune 2 gets new cast members

Dune 2’s cast looks phenomenal. Obviously, Timothee Chalement (Paul), Zendaya (Chani), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica), Josh Brolin (Gurney), and many other cast members from the first film will appear in the sequel. In addition, the film has some new faces, such as Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan), Christopher Walken (Shaddam IV), Lea Seydoux (Lady Margot), and Austin Butler (Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen). Walken will portray the Emperor himself. Seydoux’s character is a crucial member of the Bene Gesserit. Princess Irulan is the Emperor’s daughter. And Feyd-Rautha, Baron Harkonnen’s nephew, is set to become the next ruler of House Harkonnen.

Who is Alia?

Alia is an integral character in Herbert’s Dune novels as she is Paul’s younger sister and daughter of Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica. Leto dies before witnessing the birth of his daughter. Jessica was pregnant before Leto’s death. Alia is considered an abomination as she arrives after Leto’s death. However, she treasures some unique abilities, which make her an intriguing but dangerous character in the Dune universe. She is known for her telepathic abilities. In addition, she can access her ancestors’ memories. We do not know if Alia is a part of Dune 2 or not. The film’s promotional activities show no sign of her. Will she appear in Part Two? We will find out about this in March 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
