Akshay Kumar’s upcoming psychological thriller film ‘Cuttputlli’ is all set to start streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform from 2nd September onwards. It’s about a cop who sets out to catch a serial killer of young girls. Before the film arrives, we have compiled a list of five must-watch Indian serial killer movies which you can stream on various Indian OTT platforms. Despite its brilliance, we have intentionally excluded ‘Ratsasan’ from this list owing to its similarities with ‘Cuttputlli’.
Memories, 2013 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Helmed by mystery maestro Jeethu Joseph, the crime thriller features Prithviraj Sukumaran as Sam Alex, an alcoholic ex-cop who is still dealing with the death of his loved ones. When a series of killings happen with an eerily similar pattern, Sam is brought in to investigate the crimes which leads him on a trail of a serial killer.
Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, 2006 (Streaming on SonyLIV, Sun NXT, Lionsgate Play)
Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the film features veteran actor Kamal Haasan in the role DCP Raghavan. Raghavan makes it his mission to track the murderers of a police officer’s daughter. The mission takes the cop to New York to catch the maniac killer.
Kaun?, 1999 (Streaming on YouTube)
Helmed by Ram Gopal Varma, ‘Kaun?’ featured the trio of Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee, and Sushant Singh (all three had also featured in RGV’s ‘Satya’). The film revolves around a woman who is alone in a house and hears news of a serial killer on the loose. Moments later, she is stuck with two eccentric strangers. Which amongst them is the killer?
The Stoneman Murders, 2009 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Lionsgate Play)
The film is a fictionalized account ostensibly based on the real-life Stoneman serial killings of footpath dwellers that happened in the 1980s. The film features proficient actor Kay Kay Menon in the role of a suspended cop who investigates the murders. Helmed by Manish Gupta, the movie also featured Arbaaz Khan, Rukhsar Rehman and Virendra Saxena.
Mardaani 2, 2019 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
It’s the sequel to the 2014 film ‘Mardaani’ starring Rani Mukerji as an upright and efficient senior police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy. Helmed by Gopi Puthran, the movie’s plotline follows the cop’s efforts to nab a psychopath and fearless contract killer named Sunny (brilliantly played by Vishal Jethwa) for sexually assaulting and brutally murdering young girls.
