The notion of time travel is so intriguing that at least once in your lifetime, the idea to travel back to the past to amend the wrongs or into the future, must have crossed your mind. Time travel has captured the imagination of genius scientists like Albert Einstein to prolific literary writers like H.G.Wells and some elements of time-travel have been effectively depicted by numerous filmmakers as well. For this article, we have compiled a list of five films that involve some form of time-travel in its narrative which you can binge-watch on OTT. So, here we go.
Indru Netru Naalai, 2015 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
The sci-fi comedy movie revolves around a time machine, which is sent back in time by a scientist from the year 2065 to the year 2015 with the intention of transporting it back to the future in 40 seconds. But the time machine stays in 2015 and is found by an aspiring businessman Elango (Vishnu Vishal) and his girlfriend. The two use the time machine and begin earning money from it. But their happiness is short-lived when the time machine prevents the death of a dreaded gangster.
Back to the Future 1/2, 1985/1989 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
Helmed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Contact), the film explores the (mis)adventures of a boy-next-door (Michael J. Fox) who accidentally travels back and forth in time in a modified DeLorean, invented by his mad-genius scientist friend (Christopher Lloyd). Many years after its release, even today it is still considered as a benchmark for time travel movies.
24, 2016 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
The Tamil language sci-fi action movie features Suriya in a triple role. The film’s underlying plot is about Dr.Sethuraman, who invents a time travelling device in the form of a watch. The scientist’s older and evil twin brother Athreya wants the time travelling watch at any cost. Many years later, the scientist’s son Mani gets hold of the watch but is soon pursued by his uncle.
Primer, 2004 (Streaming on Mubi)
If you consider yourself a movie buff, ‘Primer’ is the kind of film to test yourself. The low-budget and complex sci-fi flick revolves around two small-time engineers Aaron and Abe who accidentally discover time travel while making an error checking device. When they try to carefully further explore their fascinating invention, they must face its serious consequences.
Bimbisara, 2022 (Streaming on Zee5)
Directed by Mallidi Vasistha, the fantasy action movie revolves around the story of an ancient king Bimbisara, who lands in present-day Hyderabad after getting betrayed by his brother. Now, the protagonist must find a way to get back to his kingdom, but for that, he must find the mirror through which he can travel back home.
