Chittagong, 2012 (Streaming on Google Play, YouTube – Rent)
Directed by Bedabrata Pain, the film is set in 1930s pre-independent India and follows the story of a young and shy boy named Jhunku. After being termed as a traitor, the boy joins the movement against British rule. Manoj Bajpayee essays the role of a charismatic teacher Masterda, who leads an armed revolt against the Britishers with the help of some school kids. It also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkkumar Rao, and Jaideep Ahlawat in important roles.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero, 2005 (Streaming on MX Player)
Helmed by veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal, the movie revolves around the story of the legendary Indian leader’s life from the years 1941 to 1945. The principal role was essayed by Sachin Khedekar and the 2005 film went on to win two National Film Awards.
Gandhi, My Father, 2007 (Streaming on Jio Cinema, Zee5, Eros Now)
The film’s central point is the tumultuous and complicated relationship between Mahatma Gandhi (played by Darshan Jariwala) and his eldest son Harilal Gandhi (played by Akshaye Khanna). While Harilal wanted to go abroad to get his education, his father wanted him to fight against the Britishers. The biographical drama also featured Shefali Shah and Bhoomika Chawla in the roles of Kasturba Gandhi and Gulab Gandhi, respectively.
1971, 2007 (Streaming on YouTube)
Essentially a prison escape movie that is set in the 1970s, the story follows six brave prisoners of the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and their attempt to make a daredevil escape from a POW camp to reach the nearby Indian border. The film featured an ensemble cast including Manoj Bajpai, Ravi Kishan, Deepak Dobriyal, and Manav Kaul.
The Ghazi Attack, 2017 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The movie was inspired by true events of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The basic premise revolves around how the courageous crew of the Indian submarine INS Karanj destroyed the Pakistani navy submarine PNS Ghazi off the coast of Visakhapatnam in the year 1971. The film featured Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni, Taapsee Pannu, and Om Puri.
