Don’t Look Up, 2021 (Streaming on Netflix)
The movie follows two astronomers (played by Leonardo Di Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence) who make a shocking discovery about an approaching comet on its way to a devastating collision with Earth in just six months. Their attempt to warn the social media-obsessed world through a media tour ostensibly forms the rest of the film’s plot. The film features an ensemble cast that also includes Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, and Timothee Chalamet.
Mirage, 2018 (Streaming on Netflix)
Helmed by Oriol Paulo, the sci-fi mystery Spanish film follows the story of a married working woman named Vera. One night, while watching an old video during an electrical storm, Vera somehow connects with a boy named Nico, who had died 25 years ago. She saves the boy from the past from his impending death, but the incident changes her reality. She learns that in the new timeline, her daughter is not even born. Now she must fight back to get her daughter back into her life.
Resident Evil, 2002 (Streaming on Netflix)
The sci-fi action horror movie follows a woman named Alice (Milla Jovovich), who is struggling with memory loss. She finds herself among a team of highly trained commandos who are sent on a time-sensitive mission to contain a deadly virus which has transformed scientists of an underground lab into flesh-hungry zombies.
Upgrade, 2018 (Streaming on Netflix)
The sci-fi action film follows the story of a mechanic named Grey, whose wife was killed after a mugging incident, and which also left him paralyzed. Soon after, a billionaire offers the now suicidal and helpless Grey the golden chance to walk again with the help of a highly advanced chip. After the procedure, the protagonist gains superhuman strength and decides to exact revenge for his wife’s murder.
