6 Hindi Films With Timeless Charm To Watch This Weekend

Queen (2013) – Netflix and JioCinema
‘Queen’ is that quintessential underdog that went way above others’ expectations and now sits in a place its detractors can only dream of. An out-and-out Kangana Ranaut show, she delivers and how! With skilled direction from Vikas Bahl and hit songs, the film still has its charm, even after all this time. A story of a fiance rejected on the day before her wedding, the movie is a must-watch for all ages.

Taare Zameen Par (2007) – Netflix
The film explores the life and imagination of Ishaan (Safary), an 8-year-old dyslexic child. Although he excels in art, his poor academic performance leads his parents to send him to a boarding school. Ishaan’s new art teacher Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) suspects that he is dyslexic and helps him to overcome his reading disorder. Taare Zameen Par is one of those movies that will tug at your heartstrings no matter how many times you’ve watched it. The cast is in top form and Aamir Khan as a director is a gift Bollywood will cherish.

Jab We Met (2007) – Netflix
‘Jab We Met’ is one movie that truly displayed what kind of a performer Kareena Kapoor is. The movie follows Shahid Kapoor’s character Aditya but it is Kareena as Geet that walks away with the movie. A fun ride of drama and emotional moments, irrespective of what mental state one is in, the movie is irresistible to watch. Many may come and go, but ‘Jab We Met’ will continue to have its unique charm.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) – Prime Video and Netflix
Another masterpiece by an actor-director, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ may be one of the best road trip films from Bollywood. Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, and Farhan Akhtar are at their best, with Farhan helming directorial duty. The last few moments are when the film truly shines. A story of self-exploration in Spain, the movie also stars Katrina Kaif. Seriously, what more does one want in a movie?

Tamasha (2015) – ZEE5
Talking about self-exploration, here is the masterpiece. ‘Tamasha’ is possibly Imtiaz Ali’s most underrated film. The movie explores the lives of Ved and Tara, played by Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. To keep things short, this is what happens when a good story becomes when you have a director who knows what he is doing and actors who are actors before celebrities. Ah, yes. Tamasha also gave us AR Rahman’s gem ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’.

Hindi Medium (2017) – Prime Video
Hindi Medium is possibly one of the few social satire films that get the point across without forcefully shoving it down our throats. Starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar in top form, the movie should be treasured for what it is. With funky songs, an engaging screenplay, and a very relevant premise, the movie works in both exaggerated moments and understated ones.
