6 Must-Watch Malayalam Films Featuring Innocent

We have gone through multiple “Must Watch Malayalam film” lists featuring mega-star actors/ character actors and method actors. This time, we will be taking a look at the movies acted which features one of the most celebrated veteran actors of South-Indian cinema who has been part of the Mollywood industry for over five decades – by being a brilliant supporting actor because of his versatile acting and comedy skills. The actor we are talking about is Innocent and here are 6 must-watch movies starring this actor:

Vadakkunokkiyantram

VadakkunokkiyantramWhile Innocent plays only a small role in this film, it is vital in influencing the story. The actor gets to stretch his comedy muscles (which, to be fair, he does anytime a camera is rolling). The film follows a young man, who has a severe inferiority complex for his short stature and dark complexion. When he gets married to a beautiful woman, his care for her quickly turns into suspicion. Watch the movie on Amazon Prime Video.

Devasuram

DevasuramUnlike most of his roles, Innocent portrays a very serious man who has to offset the carefree protagonist. Still, the actor is somehow still funny and it is one of his few underrated performances. We follow Neelakandan, the spoiled heir of the rich and well-known Mangalassery family. He squanders his father’s wealth by helping the people in his village. An altercation between his aide and Shekaran’s (his childhood rival) uncle, creates an issue that resonates throughout the film. Check it out in Eros Now.

Kilukkam
KilukkamWhile Innocent is delegated to a smaller role and shorter screen time, pretty much every appearance he makes on-screen is comedy gold. While the movie is funny in general, he is the only person who remains funny as the film continues to get serious, especially by the second half. The movie follows a young woman who comes to Ooty searching for her father. She meets a tourist guide, Joji and pretends to be mentally unstable to get shelter in his house. This feel-good film is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Manassinakkare
ManassinakkareA serious, yet funny role (should be the description of most Innocent film roles), Innocent plays an alcoholic who loves his son, but can’t keep his hands off the booze. While he is not as funny, he still plays a vital role in this movie. The story follows Old Kochu Thresia, whose family is irritated by her childlike antics and does not listen to her bizarre requests. She makes an unusual friend, Reji, a down-to-earth young man, who helps with her requests. Let’s stream this movie on Amazon Prime Video.

Godfather

GodfatherThis movie is one of the best Malayalam movies to come during the early 90s and Innocent’s performance plays a huge part in this movie. Both him and K.P.A.C. Lalitha make this movie a must-watch. The film follows Anjooran and his family. Since he hates women, his sons do not marry. However, the situation changes when his youngest son, Ramabhadran, falls for Malu, whose grandmother is Anjooran’s biggest enemy. Stream this movie on Disney+ Hotstar.

Ramji Rao Speaking

Ramji Rao SpeakingThere could never be any other film that could top this list. The iconic dialogue, “Ramji Rao Speaking” spoken by Innocent has been used in films, memes, dialogue and comedy skits around the globe. Innocent became a household name overnight (if he wasn’t already) and the film went on to spawn two sequels. We follow three bachelors who are struggling to earn a living as they remain unemployed. However, they decide to get involved in a kidnapping scheme to make quick money. This movie can be watched on Disney+ Hotstar.
