Disney+ Hotstar is a premier streaming platform in India, that has given the fans something to watch every other day. The streaming platform is without doubt beaming with fresh content with new Indian regional and non-regional releases almost every week. The platform other than superb Bollywood films, and great Hollywood content is also home to many short films.

Here is a curated list of short films that focus on the lives of mothers, and wives specifically and will tell you a side of story that might be very relatable to you and someone around you.

1. Chutney

ChutneyStarring Tisca Chopra, Adil Hussain, Rasika Duggal in the lead, Chutney follows the story of homemaker named Anita, who has this brilliant public face otherwise, but holds a dark deep secret within. The story follows Anita and her life and especially the time when she finds a close friend of hers flirting with her husband. To get back at her, she calls her over for a cup of tea and some fritters. While the women enjoy the pakoras and chutney, the guests cannot get over how tasty the chutney is. But as the film unfolds, one can see how the chutney in the movie plays a key role.

2. Churri

ChurriComing from the makers of Chutney, Churri is another short film that sees a power pact performance from Tisca Chopra, once again. This time in this short film, she is supported by director Anurag Kashyap as her husband and actress Surveen Chawla, as the woman the husband is with as he goes on with his extra marital affair. This is a very uncommon take on what a woman would do when she finds out that her husband has been cheating on her with someone else. Here, Tisca Chopra’s character takes this opportunity to get her revenge on her husband and his lover by moving in with them. While it is hilarious, it also shows an epic story that unfolds within 12 minutes.

3. The School Bag

The School BagStarring Rasika Duggal and Sartaaj RK, The School Bag tells the story and connection between a woman and her son. The son has only one dream that is to meet his father, but how do his Ammi tell him that his father abandoned him for another woman and now is living in a town in Peshawar, Pakistan. As the young boy’s birthday approaches he has only one wish and one dream only, but he doesn’t know what awaits him on his birthday. Will he be able to fulfill his dreams? Will his wishes come true? But one day, she finds a way to get the happiness she has been looking for, now the question is will she go for it, or will she not.

6. Maa

MaaMaa, a short film from Niranjan Iyengar, stars Neena Kulkarni and Dino Morea in the lead with Vivaan Shah in a major supporting role. The story revolves around a mother and elder brother played by Neena Kulkarni and Dino Morea and how they deal with the news that their son and younger brother have slipped into a drug addiction from which it is almost impossible to bring him back. While the elder brother decides to bring out a rational solution to the situation, the mother isn’t thinking the same. The movie’s basic idea is to show how a mother deals with the fact that her son has slipped into drug abuse without her knowing it, or the fact that she isn’t able to bring her child back from the hands of possible death.
