6 Reasons Why Camila Cabello’s “Cinderella” Is A Unique Film

Camila Cabello’s much-awaited “Cinderella” is finally here. The movie was released on Friday exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and has been garnering quite some attention from the audience for its unique storytelling. Now, you might be wondering why Cinderella can be unique, well first of all even though it’s an official Cinderella movie, the story and characters are a bit different, giving it the much-needed modern touch.

Directed by Kay Cannon, Cinderella, in 2021 has a whole new revamped look when it comes to the story and we believe that is one of the most important parts because the world right now is done with Cinderella, who needs the help of a charming prince, to achieve her dreams of being a princess. This has been told and retold for decades now and needs a fresher, newer version. This might be hard for people to take in all of a sudden and to make it easy for you we have 6 reasons, as to why Camila Cabello’s Cinderella is way more unique than all other past Cinderella movies.

Camila Cabello’s Film Debut

We all know how fabulous Camila Cabello is as a singer and songwriter. She has sold out stadiums, tours, won awards, and has made a name for herself in the singing industry. She is one force to be reckoned with. Before Cinderella, she has been part of various reality shows and also played a small role for two episodes in a show called “The King of The Golden Sun”. Cinderella as a movie is the first proper film debut Camila Cabello has had since the beginning of her career. Also, with her appearance in the movie as Cinderella, she became the first Latin-American celebrity to officially take on the role of Cinderella.

Billy Porter

For ages, in movies and stories, we have always seen the fairy Godmother as a white, old woman, who grants Cinderella’s wishes and helps her in getting to the ball. The role is one of the most crucial roles of the entire story. This time, for the first time ever, a man, who identifies as gay and who is Black was assigned the role of Fairy Godmother. Now, that’s some groundbreaking full stop to gender stereotyping. It is nowhere ever written that a man cannot be a Godmother, it all depends on what one identifies themselves as. It was Billy Porter’s teenage dream to play “Male Whitney Houston” and with this role, he absolutely, brilliantly got to portray his dreams.

Cinderella Has Ambitions

For all these years, we have seen versions of Cinderella, where she was always this damsel in distress. She never had any ambitions, she just wanted to get married to the prince at the end of the day. But, this time, it is a bit different. Camila Cabello’s Cinderella shows how she wants to be a fashion designer and achieve her dreams. This even comes up when Cinderella is having her iconic ballroom moment with prince charming and she chooses her ambitions and dreams over marriage with Prince Charming. Cinderella this time might have fallen in love with the prince, but she wants a life for herself too and that’s why she decides to go for her ambitions before she gets married.

Princess Comes Before Prince

Now, this one unique story. Normally, in every Cinderella story, we have always seen how Prince Charming is the righteous son, who gets married to Cinderella and takes over the kingdom from his father and helps him in ruling the kingdom. This isn’t the case here, Prince Charming who actually is named Robert in the story denounces his position as the next in line for the throne after his father. Though his father, played by Pierce Brosnan is shell-shocked, he finds the perfect candidate for the throne, his daughter, Prince Charming’s sister Gwen, who time and again has shown exemplary leadership qualities. Finally, a Princess comes before a Prince in a story.

Evil Step-Mother’s Backstory

Again in earlier versions of the story, we have never seen Cinderella’s stepmother having a back story. The only story that always comes attached to her was that she was evil and she made Cinderella’s life hell. But this time it is different, the creators of Camila Cabello’s “Cinderella” made sure that the stepmother had a backstory, a story as to why she was this evil. This all apparently comes due to the factor that she was never in her life supported by the men of her life. She was expected to be the “woman” and she was never allowed to go towards her passion, which resulted in her being the grumpy, evil person she is today.

The Story of Glass Slippers

Well, for the first time, Cinderella accepts high heels are not cool. Yes, someone had to say that out loud. The story of Cinderella has always made glass slippers the most amazing thing in the world. Girls dream about those glass slippers, about high heels are the perfect tool to make someone look good. Well, for starters it makes one look good, but nothing should come in between your comfort and this was made pretty clear by Camila Cabello in a certain scene, where she throws those high heels, saying how uncomfortable those are.

So, now we know how unique Camila Cabello’s “Cinderella” is. So, if you are a fantasy lover, or want to witness it yourself as to how it is different, you should definitely go and watch “Cinderella”, streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
