Roy Kapur Films is all set to give content producers such as Applause Entertainment and Excel Entertainment a run for their money. The production house set up by producer Siddharth Roy Kapur has announced a slate of eight web series for 2022-2023. The new slate comes on the heels of Roy Kapur Films’ successful shows, ‘Aranyak‘ on Netflix, and ‘Rocket Boys‘ on SonyLIV. The eight projects in development are set across different genres, eras, concepts and themes.
Also exciting is the fact that each of these eight projects has a stellar director at its helm. Hardik Mehta, Vishnuvardhan, Nagraj Manjule, Mahesh Narayanan, Abbas Tyrewala, Anubhav Chopra, Bhavesh Kapadia and Arati Kadav are the eight filmmakers who are creating the eight web series under the aegis of Roy Kapur Films.
Here’s what the eight upcoming projects are all about –
1. A multi-season epic action drama, which will tell the story of an integral part of India’s 20th century military history. Vishnuvardhan, director of ‘Shershaah’, is helming it
2. A multi-season spy thriller set across the Middle East and South Asia. To be helmed by Malayalam director Mahesh Narayanan, of ‘C U Soon’ and ‘Malik’ fame.
3. A family drama series that spans across Europe, Africa and India, set in the world of warring business families. Directed by Hardik Mehta, of ‘Kaamyaab’ and Netflix’s “Decoupled’.
4. A spy action drama series set in the cloak and dagger world of South Asian counterintelligence. Abbas Tyrewala, writer-director of the much-loved ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ is helming this one.
5. A female-led comic thriller series. To be helmed by successful commercials director, Bhavesh Kapadia.
6. A quirky romance set in the world of sci-fi. Arati Kadav, writer-director of the sci-fi film ‘Cargo’ is directing.
7. A young adult drama series, set in the high-pressure environment today’s high schools. Written and directed by Anubhav Chopra, co-director of Netflix’s first Indian original true-crime documentary, ‘House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths’.
8. ‘Matka King’, a series that will document the story of the rise of Ratan Khatri, the unchallenged king and founding father of gambling in India. Spanning across three decades in the Mumbai of the 60s, 70s and 80s, the series is directed by ‘Sairat’ filmmaker Nagraj Manjule.
