The number of films focusing on various physical deformities is lesser than it should be. Sensitive films are rarely based on the problems of such people. ‘Chotoder Chobi’ is one of them.
The National Award Winning filmmaker Koushik Ganguly weaves another extraordinary tale with great flair and mastery. ‘Chotoder Chobi’ tells the story of Khoka, a dwarf man who works for the circus. The trapeze artist Shibu faces a terrible accident and he is bedridden for many days. The circus manager does not aid him in such a situation, so, as a protest, Khoka, his best friend, leaves the job in the circus. Khoka starts visiting their house regularly and helps them in many ways. Soon he realises that he is falling in love with Soma, Shibu’s daughter, who is a dwarf too.
It is a heartwarming movie that will bring tears to your eyes and will force you to smile as well. There are wonderful performances from actors like Dulal Sarkar, Debolina Roy, Arun Guha Thakurta and Sanjay Biswas. The cinematography is handled by Soumik Haldar.
There is nothing to say about the direction of Koushik Ganguly. Time and time again he has helmed masterpieces like ‘Bisorjon’, ‘Laptop’, ‘Nagar Kirtan’ and many more. Once you see this movie you will know why Koushik Ganguly is so underrated.
‘Chotoder Chobi’ is a wonderful story of two so-called deformed people who fall in love and dream of making a beautiful world of their own. You should not miss this if you are a fan of Bengali movies. Watch ‘Chotoder Chobi’ on Hoichoi with your friends and family this weekend.
