Lokesh Kanagraj’s action thriller movie ‘Leo’ starring Vijay and Trisha is out in theatres now. It was acknowledged that the film has been inspired by David Cronenberg’s critically acclaimed movie ‘A History of Violence’, which in turn was based on a 1997 graphic novel of the same name. ‘Leo’ has received rather mixed feedback from critics and many fans of the parent Hollywood film came out disappointed.
If you are a diehard fan of David Cronenberg’s 2005 movie ‘A History of Violence’ and want to watch a well-made Indian adaptation, then we have a solid recommendation for you. In fact, even if you haven’t seen the original Hollywood movie, then also you can watch this film. We are talking about a hidden gem, yet a must-watch movie called ‘Maazii’, which is streaming on a relatively unknown streaming platform in India called Plex.
Helmed by Jaideep Chopra, ‘Maazii’ is loosely inspired by David Cronenberg’s slow-burning action-thriller ‘A History of Violence’ featuring the underrated actor Viggo Mortensen. Set in the scenic hills of Mussoorie, it’s the story of a sweet and seemingly innocuous man, whose peaceful family life takes a U-turn when he accidentally kills a gangster (Pankaj Tripathi in a cameo) and becomes a hero of his town overnight. But when his daughter is kidnapped, he must deal with his dark past and his inner demons in order to find her.
‘Maazii’ received positive reviews from many critics at the time of its release. In case you are still not sure about whether to watch the film or not, then you can first watch the film’s trailer below to get a better idea. Happy weekend and happy bingeing!
