OTT giant Netflix is known to release loads of Indian and foreign movies and series titles on its streaming platform every week. Amongst this month’s forthcoming releases is a relatively understated Indian movie which came out in theatres just a few weeks back.
We’re talking about the Malayalam movie titled ‘Rekha’ which has been helmed by Jithin Issac Thomas (Director – ‘Attention Please’, Segment ‘Pra. Thoo. Mu’ from ‘Freedom Fight’ anthology). ‘Rekha’ is a revenge thriller which will start streaming on the Netflix OTT platform from 10th March onwards. And the movie’s underlying premise and theme might somewhat remind some viewers of Quentin Tarantino’s cult revenge flick ‘Kill Bill’ which featured Uma Thurman in the lead role.
Set in a Northern Kerala village, ‘Rekha’ features Vincy Aloshious as the film’s titular protagonist, who is portrayed as a young, tom boyish woman. She wants a government job and is in love with his unemployed neighbour Arjun (played by Unni Lalu). Rekha is a sports school graduate while Arjun is currently assisting his father in a small business. The life of the protagonist takes a dramatic turn following an incident which happens one fateful night. And the seemingly cute love story soon changes gears and turns into a gritty revenge thriller mode.
The movie received decent reviews from critics after its theatrical release. The film’s strongest aspect was said to be the lead actor Vincy Aloshious’s intense performance. However, it’s said to be a film which is not meant for weak-hearted viewers owing to its violence and some uncomfortable and gory scenes. In case you missed watching ‘Rekha’ in theatres, then you can stream it on Netflix from 10 March. Meanwhile, you can watch the film’s trailer below to get a better idea.
