Amazon Prime Video is looking to add another feather to its collection of outstanding comedy-drama series in the form of ‘A League of Their Own‘. The upcoming show is an adaptation of Penny Marshall’s film of the same name, released in 1992. The latter had Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Lori Petty, Jon Lovitz, David Strathairn, and many more in its cast.
Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham have created the show with Sony Pictures Television serving as one of its distributors. The former is well-known for her voice roles in The Lego Ninjago Movie and Netflix’s The Mitchells vs the Machines. On the other hand, the latter has executively produced another Amazon Prime comedy series, Mozart in the Jungle.
A League of Their Own S1: Release Date
The show’s global premiere screening has already taken place at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. And it will hit the streaming service on August 12.
A League of Their Own S1: Cast
In addition to her creative duties, Abbi Jacobson will also lead the series. She will play Carson Shaw. The remaining cast includes Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Roberta Colindrez, Kelly McCormack, Nick Offerman, Priscilla Delgado, Melanie Field, Molly Ephraim, Patrick J. Adams, and many more.
What is the plot about?
The upcoming series is more women-centric as compared to the original 1992 film. Viewers will see new characters and storylines popping up in the show. It focuses on the formation of a women’s baseball team during the Second World War era, who wishes to reach new heights along with playing in AAGPBL. We will witness multiple close matches, sexual tensions, road trips, discomforts, and a fine blend of comedy and drama here.
All the episodes of ‘A League of Their Own’ have a one-hour runtime. The pilot episode will be helmed by Jamie Babbit, prominent for her directional work in Malcolm in the Middle, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Silicon Valley, and others. Stay tuned for more updates.
