The Palm Springs International Film Festival is all set for its comeback with the 2023 edition after a break of two years owing to the pandemic. The festival will take place between 5th January and 16th January 2023 at Palm Springs, California. Some of the premium titles to be showcased during the fest include ‘The Whale’, ‘The Banshees of Insherin’, ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, ‘A Man Called Otto’, ‘Decision to Leave’, and ‘Bardo’.
And the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2023 will also showcase some Indian films as well. Here is the list of the Indian titles that are a part of the PSIFF 2023.
All That Breathes
Helmed by Shaunak Sen and set against the backdrop of Delhi, the documentary film revolves around two brothers namely Saud and Nadeem whose childhood entailed watching the birds of prey, also known as the black kite, in the sky. Shaunak Sen’s film narrates how the two brothers have dedicated their lives to protect these birds which are now falling from the polluted skies.
Last Film Show aka Chhello Show
The film’s plot follows a nine-year-old boy named Samay, who lives in a remote village in Gujarat. After discovering the magic of films, he makes it his mission to become a filmmaker himself. It has been directed by Pan Nalin and is India’s official entry for the Academy Awards.
The Storyteller
Inspired by one of Satyajit Ray’s characters Uncle Tarini, the film follows the story of a retired man Tarini, who accepts a tempting offer by a wealthy man who suffers from insomnia. He uses his untapped gift of storytelling to help the man in Ahmedabad and the relationship between the two men turns interesting. The film has been helmed by Anant Mahadevan and features Paresh Rawal and Adil Hussain.
To Kill a Tiger
Directed by Nisha Pahuja, the intense and hard-hitting documentary film revolves around a Jharkhand based impoverished farmer Ranjit, who goes against all odds to seek justice for the brutal rape of his thirteen-year-old daughter. Ranjit and his family must undertake the extremely arduous journey and a 14-month long legal fight against the preparators of the heinous crime.
