Independent film producer Neils Juul is working on a limited series based on the life of entrepreneur Adolf Dassler. Neils Juul has executive produced multiple big budget movies like ‘Ferrari’, ‘Silence’, ‘The Irishman’ and ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’. Neils will produce the show under his banner No Fat Ego.
The narrative will be in the point of view of Dassler’s oldest daughter Inge. The title has not been fixed yet but it will tell the story of Adolf’s rise to the sports good business from the little German village and his reign and monopoly in the industry. It will also have moments of the classic rivalry with his brother Rudoflf Dassler, who founded Puma, which still carries on the legacy of rivalry to Adidas.
Juul has said that this series will be something like a creative intersection between ‘The Crown’ and ‘Succession’. He said, “I am a big fan of real-life stories, and as much as I liked Enzo Ferrari’s tale, I was immediately drawn to the story of Adi. It’s a great dramatic, intense and brutal tale but also at times hilariously funny with the rivalry between the two brothers. What truly attracts me to the story is how one visionary man and sports idealist completely defied convention at the time.”
The legacy of Adolf Dassler is well beyond the realm of sports. He showed exceptional courage in making shoes for Jesse Owens’, against Hitler’s will. He also supported female athletes when girls were not allowed to play at all. AD Legacy, the farm created by Dassler’s grandson, will be cooperating with Neils Juul for the series.
There will be probably twelve episodes in all for the show. Other details will be announced later on.
