The movie captures a somewhat psychological essence of the troubled times of the American Civil War. During the wars, a soldier from the rival armies seeks refuge in an all girls boarding school in Virginia. John McBurney’s arrival in the school flames up new passions of jealousy, lust, and rivalry in the girls of the boarding school. This goes on with unexpected consequences. The role of Soldier McBurney is played by the fascinating Colin Farrell. The movie also stars wonderful actresses like Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and many others.
Sofia Coppola was selected for the Palme d’Or awards for the film and she won the Best Director to be the second woman in the world to win it. The Beguiled is only ninety four minutes long and it will engage all your senses like all Sofia Coppola movies do.
