A Suitable Boy Netflix US Release Date – Twitterati Upset with Netflix!

Netflix’s ‘A Suitable Boy’ was released on 23rd October to a lot of mixed reviews. Among Indians (the story is set in India, just after Independence), the story seems to have fallen flat, but the series is said to be hit among the western audience. And apparently two of the biggest English markets, U.S. and Canada, are currently unable to view the series on Netflix due to broadcasting rights issues.

Since the series dropped 3 days, many American and Canadian Netflix subscribers have taken to twitter to ask the OTT giant details regarding ‘A Suitable Boy’s’ potential release. Most of the tweets have been basic inquiries but there have been a few funny ones included as well. So far, there has been no reply from Netflix, with BBC Studios (The series producer) looking at another different potential North American distributor (for some reason). Check out a few of the tweets down below:

The entire series is said to be in English, which seems unrealistic to a lot of the Indian audience. But this actually makes it easier for the English viewers (English fluent speakers as well) to watch the series. True, it would be a hard ask to turn the 1000 page plus novel into a good film or series, but ‘Les Misérables’ and ‘War & Peace’ writer Andrew Davies has adapted the screenplay for the Vikram Seth novel with much effort.

A suitable boy is a six-part mini-series produced by BBC. It tells us the story of a young, spirited university student, Lata, who is coming of age in 1951, four years after the Indian Independence. Her mother is trying to find a suitable husband for her daughter, and this story is set in the background of India’s first democratic general election.

The series broadcasted in the UK on BBC One on July 26th, 2020. It is currently streaming on Netflix in India.
