A24’s Civil War recently premiered at this year’s SXSW film festival, where it received highly positive reviews from critics. The upcoming Alex Garland directional screened at the jam-packed Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas.
Civil War is Garland’s tribute to war journalism. Instead of touching the political elements of its sensitive subject matter, the film explores the horrors of a civil war in the modern-day United States. It revolves around the civil war between the American government and the Western forces led by California and Texas. The former body begins to display cruel traits of dictatorship to control the Western forces and extremist militias. Among this chaos, we witness a team of journalists, led by Lee (Kirsten Dunst), trying to cover the civil war.
The first reactions towards Civil War are highly positive, with many critics calling the movie a haunting but fascinating film. Many viewers have praised the performances of the film’s cast, particularly of Dunst. The film is loaded with plenty of action and seems epic in every way.
