Perfectionist actor Aamir Khan had previously revealed that his next film was titled ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ and that he will essay the role of his character who is helped by a group of boys who are dealing with their own issues. As you know, the film is reportedly a remake of the Spanish film ‘Campeones’, whose English, German, and Arabic language remakes have already been made.
As per the latest update about Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, the ‘Lagaan’ actor has reportedly (via Mid-Day) commenced the film’s shooting schedule in Mumbai and is expected to conclude filming in April.
‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ will be directed by R.S. Prasanna, who made his directorial debut with the Tamil rom-com movie ‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’, which was later remade in Hindi as ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhan’. The movie also features Genelia D’Souza.
The parent film ‘Campeones’, which translates to ‘Champions’ in English, revolved around an arrogant and ill-tempered basketball coach, who is forced to train a basketball team comprising players with intellectual disabilities. So, obviously, Aamir Khan will play the role of the basketball coach. Interestingly, this sports drama was apparently offered to several other actors namely Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Farhan Akhtar. However, things didn’t work out and now Aamir Khan himself is starring in it.
Aamir Khan’s last film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, which was an Indian adaptation of the Academy Award winner ‘Forrest Gump’, turned out to be a big box office disappointment despite being a well-intentioned film. So, now, it would be interesting to see whether another remake starring Aamir Khan will click with Indian viewers or not.
Since remakes in general have not done very well in the Hindi film industry of late, people are wary whether Aamir Khan doing another remake is the right decision or not at this point of time. We hope that Aamir Khan proves his detractors wrong and delivers a brilliant film which also sets the box office on fire. But that remains to be seen.
