Perfectionist actor Aamir Khan’s latest acting venture ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ has been out in theatres for a week. The film, as you all know, is the official remake of the Oscar-winning Hollywood movie ‘Forrest Gump’ starring Tom Hanks. This is not the first time Aamir Khan has starred in a film which has been somewhat inspired by or loosely based or is an adaptation of a Hollywood film. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (Streaming on Zee5)
The cult sports film was inspired by the 1987 comedy drama movie ‘Breaking Away’ albeit with significant changes in the plot. Helmed by Mansoor Khan, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ revolves around a father’s (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) dream to see his elder son (Mamik Singh) win the prestigious inter-college cycle race. When the arrogant brat (Deepak Tijori) defeats him, the younger son (Aamir Khan) takes charge and challenges the reigning champion.
Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, MX Player, YuppTV, Shemaroo Me)
The movie’s plot was inspired from the 1958 rom-com ‘House Boat’. Helmed by Mahesh Bhatt, the ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’ follows a bunch of naughty orphaned kids who are taken care of by their young maternal uncle (Aamir Khan). One day, they visit a carnival and befriend and bring home a runaway bride (Juhi Chawla) without the knowledge of their uncle. All hell breaks loose when their uncle comes to know about the secret.
Akele Hum Akele Tum (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The heartrending film was Mansoor Khan’s take on Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep starrer ‘Kramer vs Kramer’. The story revolves around two aspiring singers Rohit Kumar (Aamir Khan) and Kiran (Manisha Koirala) who get married to each other. However, the wife leaves the husband and their child (Adil) owing to their marital discord. This leads to an ugly legal battle between the still struggling Rohit and the now-famous actress Kiran for the custody of their son.
Ghajini (Streaming on Zee5, Sun NXT)
Although ‘Ghajini’ is the Hindi remake of A. R. Murugadoss’s Tamil movie of the same name, but the parent source material is ostensibly inspired by Jonathan Nolan’s short story which was adapted into the film ‘Memento’ by Christopher Nolan. The film is a revenge drama that follows the story of a business tycoon (Aamir Khan) suffering from short-term memory loss. Armed with a polaroid camera and body tattoos, the protagonist sets out to avenge the brutal death of his love interest (Asin) by the titular villain, against all odds.
Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (Streaming on Hungama Play)
The 1991 film was an unofficial remake / inspired from Hollywood movie ‘It Happened One Night’. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the story is about a rich brat Pooja (played by Pooja Bhatt), who runs away from her father (Anupam Kher) to meet her lover, an arrogant movie star. During her road journey, she meets a street smart but good-hearted news reporter Raghu (Aamir Khan), who decides to help her reach her destination but the two begin to develop romantic feelings for each other.
