Aashiqana is now streaming on Hotstar and after its episode, it becomes important to discuss a few things. Let’s talk about the Indian TV industry. We are sure that not a lot of people have sweet things to say about it. The shows which promise to give a voice to Indian women help in nothing except amplify patriarchy and misogyny.
Women are subjected to highly ornamented beings who are found in just two species. The good category contains dedicated housewives who take care of their family, make sure that she is vulnerable and cries all the time.
The evil category contains those who act innocent, make sure that there is a conflict in the house, torture the good women and intentionally spill oil on the stairs.
Ear bleeding drums, irrelevant Sanskrit chants and unnecessary waste of time just heighten the level of cringe we are served.
Indian OTT industry came to the rescue from that. We could watch great shows like Sacred Games, The Family Man, Aarya and more. Thankfully, many shows are female-dominated in OTT like The Fame Game, Aranyak, Aarya and a lot of others.
Now, if someone says that a typical Indian TV series is barging on OTT then it would certainly NOT be welcomed by the cinephiles. Let us inform you that Aashiqana is doing exactly that.
A new series Aashiqana drops an episode from Monday to Saturday just like a typical TV serial.
The first episode is a clear reflection that it is just a cringe-worthy TV series with unbearable dialogues, pathetic acting, irrelevant chants and a stomach-churning story.
There is a scene where a serial killer is going in a police van. A police officer asks him the number of people he has murdered. He replies 50 to which the police officer quotes that there are only 48 in the records.
The murderer replies that 50 including you two (pointing at the two police officers).
The writers deserve claps and appreciation for NOT copying Saani Kaayidham. After all, Keerthy Suresh had quoted only 25 murders including the interrogator.
In another scene, a man torches up a police van through his rocket launcher and the policemen just scream in slow motion.
The bottom line is, that NO ONE (keeping the minuscule minority apart) wants any OTT platform to invest their time, energy and money on such shows. The TV industry is a well-acknowledged dumping ground for decades.
This kind of content carries the curse of Indian Soap Operas and will lead OTT to doom. Aashiqana is the epitome of cringe and it is something we would recommend you to stay away from.
