Abhay Deol, the youngest of the legendary Deol family is always known for doing something different, something ‘Hatke’ which makes him a class apart even if he has a limited filmography. His unusual choice of stories reflects in his unusual films such as Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Manorama Six Feet Under, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara or Chopsticks and be it a commercially successful or unsuccessful venture, he is never shy of experimenting with his roles.
On that note, we present to you Abhay Deol’s first ever Indo-American venture which will be released on Disney channel in the US on 13th of August – Spin. It’s actually a coming-of-age story of an Indian-American teenage girl Rhea Kumar who lives with his father Arvind and aims to break the social stereotypes by becoming a DJ in Indian attire mixing Indian culture in a competition.
Directed by Manjari Makijany, the daughter of late actor Mac Mohan, known for his role in Sholay, Spin is aiming for the younger Indian audiences in America. Makijany is soaring on success with her recently released Netflix film ‘Skater Girl’ which was also an Indo-American collaboration. The film will feature Diary of a Future President’s Avantika Vandanapu who was a winner of the Zee TV reality show Dance India Dance Lil Masters North America. Avantika also acted in 2016 Indian Telugu film Brahmotsavam starring Mahesh Babu and Kajal Agarwal as a child artist but for the past 3 years she is in Hollywood, pursuing her American career.
Now, as Abhay Deol himself shared the news of Spin via Instagram with his fans, he also captioned, “I am aware that most of my audience love me for making edgy, alternative narratives that challenge the status quo. Which is why this film is all the more special as it is a departure from my own status quo, and catering to a much younger audience”. This also indicates that Deol is again following his usual ‘unusual’ trend of exploring something new via this upcoming teen drama and who knows, he might become a popular Indian face in upcoming Hollywood ventures as we are all aware of his acting capabilities.
Therefore, it’s needless to say that we will be eagerly looking forward to this India-centric teen drama featuring the youngest Deol and will wait for this one to go live in India.
