The award winning Brazilian movie City Of God or ‘Cidade de Deus’ is going to have a sequel series soon. The series will be streaming on Max and it will be a followup to the story so far. Makers have confirmed this news.
‘City Of God’ released in 2002 and was one of the first Brazilian movies to make some noise to the international cinema audience. City Of God went on to be a cult phenomena and enjoyed huge fandom all over the world. It was appreciated for its style, editing, boldness and unique storyline. The movie tells the story of two young boys who are brought up in the setting of poverty-stricken Brazilian neighbourhood. Their lives are scarred by poverty and crime and their childhoods leave trauma for a lifetime. When the grow up, one decides to be a photographer, while the other chooses the path of dealing in drugs. The movie was set in the 1970s, and the series will be set in 2000s. So there will be some previous actors returning for their roles.
The show is titled City of ‘God: The Fight Rages On’ and it will be having six episodes in all. It will deal with sensitive themes like police brutality, racism, corruption and privilege. Fernando Meirelles, who directed the original movie, will be producing the show. The release date will be revealed soon.
