‘Pettaikaali’ a web series based on ‘jallikattu’ or ‘Manju Virattu’ which is the famous 1000 year old bull sport from Tamil Nadu will premiere soon on Aha Tamil. The series has been directed by Raj Kumar, who is a long time assistant of director Vetri Maaran, who will present the film.
While Bollywood is getting heavily trolled and suffering with continuous flops because of allegedly mocking Indian culture and disrespecting religion and heritage, the South Indian film industry has always proved its brilliance in showing Indian culture with mastery and also making great stories out of it. Not only is this the first web series On The topic, it covers the inside stories of those participating in the story in great detail. The roots of culture stay deep in the Tamil film industry and they have produced wonderful films with heritage in the background of the story from time to time. Vetri Maaran himself is one of the stalwarts of the Tamil film industry who are constantly supporting and protecting culture through visual media.
Pettaikaali stars Kalaiyarasan, Kishore and Sheela Rajkumar. The music of the film is given by Santhosh Narayanan and the cinematography is done by Velraj. Those two are the regular collaborators of Vetri Maaran.
The series follows the story of the individuals taking part in the festival and intimately documenting it. There are glimpses of ego clashes between the individuals too in the trailer.
Vetri Maaran, the winner of the national award five times, is known for films like Asuran, Aadukalam, Visaranai, Vada Chennai etc. His backing of the web series makes it more special and we can expect quality from it. Vetri Maaran is also heard to be directing a movie with the star Suriya in the lead which will also revolve around tbe same sport of ‘Jallikattu’.
