After a long wait of five years since the first Spider-Verse film came out in 2018, its sequel ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ was finally released in Indian theatres on 1st June 2023. And the animated superhero movie was an instant hit among genre fans and ardent cinephiles alike.
Soon after its release, ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ cracked the coveted international list of the top 50 movies on Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd. And now, the widely acclaimed movie has secured a place on IMDb’s top 250 highest rated movies of all time. But the question is: has it beaten all other animated and live-action Spider-Man movies on the IMDb list? Let’s find out.
‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ currently holds Rank 12 on IMDb top 250 international movies list. Besides ‘Across the Spider-Verse’, just two more Spider-Man movies have managed to secure a spot on the IMDb list: the parent Spider-Verse film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ and the Tom Holland starrer ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
And ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ has beaten them both. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and other Spider-Man live-action films starring Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield are not even present on the IMDb top 250 list. Moreover, ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ has now become only the second film from 2023 after James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’ to find a place on IMDb top 250 list.
Coming back to ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, the movie follows the daredevil multi-versal adventures of Miles Morales aka Spider-Man, who teams up with Spider-Woman Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to fight a powerful nemesis. But this creates a rift between Miles Morale and other Spider-People. Now, fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the third Spider-Verse movie ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’, which is slated to release next year in March.
