Netflix has previously announced that they would go after password-sharing features later this year. Well, this is actually happening and Netflix is shamelessly putting all the blame for the loss in subscriber base on their loyal subscribers themselves.
Regardless, this whimsical decision is coming a few days after they announced their new pricing for the ad-supported model.
So the new feature is called “Transfer Profile”. Imagine that someone is using someone else’s Netflix account with a different profile. He would have personalized his feed with recommendations, my list, and so on. Now that he would find it lazy to personalize his own newly purchased account, the new Transfer Profile feature will help.
They will be able to transfer all data from the existing profile to a new one without any issues. So, this feature is nothing but a voluntary grace period where users who are using someone else’s account may purchase a new account with perfect smoothness.
But it doesn’t look like Netflix would stop at that. We are assuming that the platform has just taken a baby step and it would certainly come up with more sinister plans to stop users from sharing passwords. Stay tuned for every detail that Netflix follows in this plan of theirs.
