This scenario puts her MCU character in doubt, considering how Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ended. Lilly debuted as Wasp in Ant-Man (2015), alongside Paul Rudd. She reprised the character in the sequels: Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Quantumania (2023). With the actress stepping away from acting, the Wasp mantle in the MCU is up for grabs. Zooey Deschanel
Do you know that Marvel originally wanted Zooey Deschanel as Wasp? Joss Whedon wanted Deschanel to play the character back when The Avengers (2012) was in development. But, Scarlett Johansson later joined the film’s cast as Black Widow, resulting in Deschanel’s exit from the project. She has a charming presence and could bring a new energy to Hope Van Dyne. Plus, she could add her quirkiness, intelligence, and more humour to the character. A performer like her should not have any problem in finding on-screen chemistry with Paul Rudd.
Alicia Vikander
Highly talented Alicia Vikander is another strong contender for the Wasp role. Her performance in Tomb Raider (2018) was acclaimed by both fans and critics. Vikander not only delivered an outstanding performance, but she also flawlessly embodied Lara Croft’s resilience and athleticism, showcasing her ability to lead a superhero franchise. In addition, her sensational performance in Ex Machina (2014) suggests she could add even more depth and complexity to Hope van Dyne.
Rebecca Ferguson
Rebecca Ferguson, known for her role as Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible franchise, can easily replace Evangeline Lilly. Her experience with physically demanding roles proves she can handle the action sequences. This makes her a strong candidate to take on the mantle if the MCU decides to go in a new direction. She also has a commanding presence, evident in Dune: Part Two. Her sensational performance in the Dune sequel showcases her ability to handle layered and complex characters with ease.
