Adam Driver Turns 38! Check Out His Top Ten Performances!

Adam Driver Turns 38! Check Out His Top Ten Performances!

One of the most high profile projects of Adam Driver, House of Gucci, is waiting for its worldwide release on November 24 this year. With Ridley Scott at the helm, he stars alongside Lady Gaga, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, and Jeremy Irons. On the occasion of his 38th birthday, we decided to list his top ten performances.

10. Jude – Hungry Hearts (2014)

Hungry Hearts has many faults. This fact has been displayed quite clearly in its critical reception. Still, Driver’s performance was excellent in this movie. He also bagged the Volpi Cup for his role in this Saverio Costanzo’s directional project. His on-screen partner, Alba Rohrwacher, also managed to win the same award in the best actress category.

The movie’s plot focuses on the relationship between Jude (Adam Driver) and Mina (Alba Rohrwacher). Their first encounter takes place inside the bathroom of a restaurant. Out of nowhere, they both get locked inside that place. Soon, they begin to date and marry each other. Both of them get blessed with a baby sometime later.

But everything turns into chaos when Mina starts suffering from psychosis. Now, Jude has the daunting task of keeping himself and their baby safe from her condition.

9. Toby Grummett – The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018)

We can all admit that Terry Gilliam’s projects are not of everyone’s taste. This movie also suffers from the same case. It was one of Gilliam’s dream projects. The director had to wait for more than 25 years to work on this movie. But the movie was nothing except a bizarre financial disappointment.

Driver stars alongside Jonathan Pryce (Don Quixote) in this movie. He is a not-so-famous director who helms TV advertisements. One day, he discovers an old DVD copy of his first project. It prompts him to find the entire star cast. Soon, he finds that the guy who played Don Quixote is deeply attached to that character.

8. Henry McHenry – Annette (2021)

Adam Driver plays a strange, vicious yet pathetic character in this movie. It is Leos Carax first English directional project. But it suffers from over experimentation. Still, Driver and the remaining cast does a fantastic job.

Adam portrays the character of a stand-up comedian, Henry. Soon, he marries Ann, a professional opera singer. But their lives turn upside down after the arrival of their newborn daughter, Annette. Additionally, the leading man displays his singing talent here. And he pulls it off quite well.

7. Clyde Logan – Logan Lucky (2017)

Many people think of Adam Driver as a serious and emotional actor. But that’s not the case, folks. Even with an arm prosthetic and a dummy brain, he steals the show from talents like Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig.

Steven Soderbergh returned after four long years to direct this raunchy comedy. Yes, the movie was not a financial success. Still, it helped in elevating Driver’s career. He is a bartender and a former US soldier in this film. He lost his left arm in one of his military tours. As a result, he starts wearing a prosthetic arm.

Clyde’s brother, Jimmy, approaches him to rob a speedway after the latter finds himself in a tight spot financially.

6. Jamie Massey – While We’re Young (2014)

This project marked the first collaboration between Adam Driver and director Noah Baumbach. Driver plays the character of Jamie Massey, an aspiring documentary moviemaker. He possesses a bloodsucking, upbeat, and horrendous personality. Still, he is charismatic in his way. That’s what attracts Josh (Ben Stiller) towards him the most.

On the other hand, Josh is a reputed director facing multiple personal issues. Soon, he starts envying Jamie. He even starts copying his style and mannerism to open a new chapter of youth in his mundane life.

5. Father Francisco Garupe – Silence (2016)

We know Martin Scorsese for perfectly helming many crime genre movies in his career. But he also has movies based on faith and humanity under his belt. Silence is also one of them. It flopped badly at the box office. But the performances of the cast received critical praise.

Driver plays Father Garupe in this Scorsese’s project. He travels with Father Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) from Portugal to Japan to spread Christianity and save their renowned Father Ferreira. After reaching Japan, they discover that Ferreira has chosen Buddhism over Christianity as he was unable to cope with the fear of the Japanese emperor.

Fans strongly believe that Driver deserved more screentime in this movie. Garfield did an exceptional job. But Driver looked phenomenal too. Both guys pushed their physical limits and lost a lot of weight to prepare for their characters.

4. Kylo Ren – Star Wars Episode VII to IX

All hail Kylo Ren!

We don’t think we have to mention how much fans hate the sequel trilogy of Star Wars. The collaboration of Lucasfilm and Disney didn’t turn out to be fruitful for George Lucas’s baby projects. This series might have ruined other characters for good. Somehow, they did Kylo Ren well.

Episode VII displays the aggressive, ambitious, and conflicted version of Kylo Ren. He wants to rule the galaxy. Yet, at the same time, he also finds himself in a conflict with his emotions. We see him struggling with his feelings towards his parents. He cripples his soul after cowardly slaughtering his father, Han Solo.

We watched a broken and a bit terrified Ren in the eighth episode. The Last Jedi faced the absolute wrath of the fans for various reasons. Still, they loved Adam’s performance in that galactic misfire. And the final episode of The Skywalker Saga ended Kylo’s arc with a not-so-good yet decent closure.

3. Paterson – Paterson (2016)

Paterson treasures one of the best performances of Adam Driver’s career. He plays the role of a bus driver turned aspiring poet beautifully. As a bus driver, he hears the conversations of his passengers during bus rides. His wife encourages him to write more poems and publish a book.

Every actor or actress needs a performance that changes everything in his/her career. Paterson certainly did that job for Adam Driver.

2. Detective Philip Zimmerman – BlacKkKlansman (2018)

Fans witnessed Adam Driver playing a Jewish cop in the movie that targets the infamous Ku Klux Klan. As Flip Zimmerman, he aids Detective Stallworth, the first Black cop in the Colorado Police Department, in finding out the plans of Klan members and arresting them. However, things get a bit tricky when Stallworth accidentally reveals his real name on a phone call with a Klan member.

John David Washington might have led this project perfectly. But we cannot undermine Driver’s efforts in this Spike Lee’s project. He was outstanding and completely natural in his role. A must watch movie for everyone!

1. Charlie Barber – Marriage Story (2019)

The duo of Adam Driver and Noah Baumbach finally worked their charm on their audiences with this mesmerising and sensational film. The leading man was breathtaking in every moment of this project. His performance kind of reminds us of a ticking bomb. A calm start in the beginning only to be exploded like a volcano in the end.

How can we forget that heartbreaking scene of Adam with Scarlett Johansson in the final moments of the film? That scene is enough to describe his acting range.
