The much-awaited ‘Adipurush’ trailer landed today on social media; and just as we expected, it is as terrible as ever. There’s no improvement at all from the Adipurush teaser that was launched eight months ago on the occasion of Dussehra. The VFX sucks big time, and the live action is nothing but a horrid joke on Indian audiences.
After delaying Adipurush by five months from its initial Sankranti release date—purportedly to carry out improvements and rework on the VFX—is this pathetic-looking trailer all that the Adipurush makers could come up with? Sheesh, what a waste of money and effort!
The VFX in the Adipurush trailer looks too artificial and mediocre to make any kind of impact. The computer-generated locales look like cardboard cut-outs instead of the pristine, scenic Indian countryside. Not just that, even the central characters of Lord Rama, Sita, Ravana and Hanuman look as if they’re computer-generated and not living, breathing, flesh-and-blood actors.
As if the atrocious VFX and computer graphics weren’t enough, Adipurush even has cringey dialogues to add to our woes and dislike. In one scene, Kriti Sanon as Sita Mata goes, “Raghav ne mujhe paane ke liye Shiv-dhanush toda tha; ab unhe Ravan ka ghamand todna hoga”. Ugh, cringe overloaded!
Even the dialogue delivery of pivotal actors like Devdatta Nage (Hanumanji) and Sunny Singh (Laxman) leaves much to be desired. As also their looks – Hanumanji’s prominent mouth is made to look like how kids would recreate it in a kiddie play; while Prabhas as Lord Ram is made to sport this weird mustache, and perpetual panda-like dark rings around his eyes. At no point in the trailer does he project the aura or brilliance associated with Lord Rama – remember Arun Govil’s aura as Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana or Nitish Bhardwaj in B. R. Chopra’s Mahabharata? No, Prabhas is simply not suited as Lord Rama – a terrible miscasting that will spell doom for Om Raut’s labour of love.
All said and done, let’s hope our projections are wrong and audiences lap up Adipurush, T-Series’ version of our beloved epic Ramayana. The film releases in theatres on 16th June, 2023, the day of its crucial litmus test.
Adipurush stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan in his Telugu debut, along with Devdatta Nage, Sunny Singh and Vatsal Sheth. The film is written and directed by Om Raut and produced by T-Series and Retrophiles. Adipurush releases in theatres on 16th June, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
