Just a few days back, we were talking about whether Om Raut’s mythological action movie ‘Adipurush’ can turn out to be a hit on OTT following its disappointing box office performance. And it seems that we already have an answer to the question.
Last week, ‘Adipurush’ sprung a surprise when it suddenly started streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video OTT platforms in Hindi and South Indian languages, respectively. Film enthusiasts were wondering whether or not ‘Adipurush’ would be able to attract OTT audiences in a big way, considering the backlash it received after its theatrical release a couple of months back.
As per the latest Netflix global top ten non-English films list, ‘Adipurush’ has made an impressive entry and is currently placed on the eighth spot of the coveted list. The Netflix website further states that ‘Adipurush’ was watched globally for an impressive 45 lakh hours last week with 15 lakh views from 7th to 13th August. It is to be noted that ‘Adipurush’ was released on OTT on 11th August, so the viewing stats on Netflix is for just three days.
On the other hand, ‘Adipurush’ is also trending on the other OTT platform Amazon Prime Video where it is streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. ‘Adipurush’ is currently placed on the second spot and is just behind the web series ‘Made in Heaven’ as per the Prime Video app.
So, it looks like, after a disappointing theatrical run, ‘Adipurush’ is all set to become a big hit on OTT. It would be interesting to see how it performs on both these OTT platforms Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in the coming days.
An adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana, Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’ features Prabhas (as Adipurush / Lord Ram), Saif Ali Khan (as Lankesh / Ravana), Kriti Sanon (as Janaki / Goddess Sita), Sunny Singh as Lakshmana, and Devdatta Nage as God Hanuman / Bajrang.
