After being roped in to voice for the legendary titular character of Mario in ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie’, Hollywood actor Chris Pratt will also reportedly (via The Hollywood Reporter) be voicing for the immensely popular fictional cat character Garfield in the new animated film titled ‘Garfield’. The film will be distributed by Sony Pictures and its animation would purportedly be provided by British visual effects company DNEG.
‘Garfield’ is being helmed by Mark Dindal, who has previously written and directed several animated feature films such as ‘Cats Don’t Dance’, ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’, and ‘Chicken Little’.
Garfield is the central character (a cat) of the comic strip of the same name created by American cartoonist Jim Davis. The Garfield character is portrayed as a lasagna-loving, sleep-loving, and Monday-hating cat. This is not the first time an animated movie is being made based on Garfield.
Besides featuring in over a dozen television specials, Garfield made an appearance in the 2004 live-action/animated movie ‘Garfield: The Movie’ and its sequel ‘Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties’. In both these films, acclaimed actor Bill Murray had lent his voice for the free spirited, orange cat Garfield. Subsequently, three more Garfield films namely ‘Garfield Gets Real’, ‘Garfield’s Fun Fest’, and ‘Garfield’s Pet Force’ were released.
Besides ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie’ and now ‘Garfield’, Chris Pratt had earlier also lent his voice for ‘The Lego Movie’ (2014), and Disney and Pixar’s ‘Onward’ (2020), amongst others. Chris Pratt, whose last acting project was Amazon Prime Video’s sci-fi actioner ‘The Tomorrow War’, will next be seen in ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, Amazon series ‘The Terminal List’, James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, and ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special’.
