2020 was a year that saw the rise of OTT platforms. That too of all kinds apart from the giants that we already have. We saw more regional OTT services popping up and even documentary services like Discovery+ and CuriosityStream. There was basically an OTT service that came up for almost every requirement of ours.
As the OTT boomed, so did our telecom services. As we already were getting high-speed internet and almost every corner of India now has internet, telecom industries started handing out offers as they partnered up with OTT services. In fact, they have their own line of OTT and digital media space like for Jio, it is Jio Cinemas and Jio TV while for another Indian telecom giant, namely Bharti Airtel, it is Airtel TV.
The offers dominated, as and when one needed a new plan or needed to recharge their phones they could just grab the offers that gave them free subscription to a particular OTT service. As 2020 went by and 2021 was a new beginning altogether, telecom industries are now looking to take over the eSports arena too.
Recently news has been out that Jio is holding a 70 days eSports tournament with Battle Royale. The tournament itself can easily lure gamers into it as the prize money is near about Rs. 3 lakh and with live streaming on JioTV as a bonus. On the other hand Bharti Airtel has been known to tie up with an eSports company called NODWIN Gaming to create India’s first National Ranking and Awarding System for gamers across four major tournaments.
Seems like eSports will be taking the cake this year as telecom industries fight for a better chance for the gamers of India. It is a well known fact that gaming is quite a culture and to invest in a booming industry such as this will only lead to the company’s betterment.
