Oh My God 2, the sequel for the 2012 comedy Oh My God has been in the making for sometime now and the news about the movie has been making headlines recently. Earlier this month, news was out about the sequel being in works and pre production of it starting soon, later the news came in that Pankaj Tripathi would be replacing Paresh Rawal for the movie.
Well, now, Oh My God 2 has another interesting update. Reports have mentioned that along with Pankaj Tripathi joining Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam has also joined the team as the leading lady for the upcoming movie. Though not much information has come up about the characters, it is being said that Yami Gautam will indeed have a significantly important role to play in the movie.
The first part of the franchise which was released in 2012 was a critically acclaimed hit for its unique concept of Paresh Rawal’s character suing God. The makers have mentioned that the story of the second part will not be like what it was in the first part, but it will be something really unique.
While the last film showed a fight between a man and God, reports say that this time around the story will focus on three crucial characters that will be essayed by Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam and Akshay Kumar. That being said, Akshay Kumar will be returning to the movie in his same God-like avatar.
Oh My God 2 has been in the works for a year and half now and it is being said that the makers have taken a significant amount of time to come up with the plot as they believe it is very important. They didn’t want to make something up just for the sake of making a sequel, the movie needed to have the same impact like the first one and with a repeated storyline; it won’t catch people’s attention once again.
While the first part was helmed by Umesh Shukla, the sequel will be directed by Amit Rai, who is known for his critically acclaimed “Road to Sangam”. The movie is being produced by Amit Varde as well as Akshay Kumar. This is the second time Amit Rai will be working with Akshay Kumar, they have earlier collaborated on Akshay Kumar’s “Padman”, which was inspired by Rai’s short film “I-Pad”.
As for Yami Gautam, this will be the first time the actress will be seen sharing the screen with Akshay Kumar. As for Pankaj Tripathi, it will be his second time working with Kumar, after “Bachchan Pandey”. The movie is slated to release exactly after a decade of the first film’s release, which will be in 2022.
As most of the concept and story is still under wraps, but whatever crumbs have been given out, it clearly indicates Yami Gautam might have a big role. This will be interesting to see how the makers make Yami Gautam’s role shine when the movie already boasts of stalwarts like Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi.
