Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh aka RSS had a three day sabha in Kerala. The organisation emphasised strengthening the democratic structure of the country while advocating for stricter rules on the OTT. This is quite paradoxical but that’s not our concern. We strongly support RSS in its stand of making the country a safer place for women. More importantly, the culprits should be dealt with the harshest punishments without any case of victim blaming.
But, will OTT regulation really help?
Time and again, we have emphasised that there is no data to prove that OTT has contributed to rapes. More importantly, India was not a haven for women before the emergence of OTT and steamy entertainment.
So, how can we punish the platforms or, let’s say, force the filmmakers to compromise with the storylines which require steamy scenes?
Binged has staunchly opposed series like Rana Naidu because the vulgar scenes don’t make any sense in the series. But, if the storyline demands such scenes then why should they be chopped simply due to unsubstantiated claims?
These things need to be examined before there is any law because no sane brain would demand regulatory laws that don’t help in bringing any positive change.
