Netflix is always a step ahead when it comes to streaming content and also producing them. Netflix has already mentioned how they want to invest more and more in the original content section of India. Given the vast population and diversity of this country, Netflix needs to be on its toes with the most updated content all the time. The recent addition to this has been an upcoming show by Netflix, going by the name of “Chuna”.
The Netflix original will be starring Jimmy Shergill in the lead and will be based in and around the socio-political events of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The show will be focusing more on the political aspects of the state mixed with bits and pieces of crime here and there. The Netflix original is being directed by director Pushpendra Nath Mishra and the show reportedly has already started with the shooting of the movie.
Though there haven’t been any confirmations from either parties but the rumours are strong. The show that has been “Chuna” might have a different name altogether by the end. Now, the thing is last month we already saw what really went down when Amazon Prime Video started streaming “Tandav”. The country went berserk and the strings of controversies that erupted from it, is still going on.
Now, Netflix coming up with another political based show, we can only imagine what this show might be all about. The wounds of those that opposed Tandav are still fresh and if Netflix and the showmakers’ plans go well, the Chuna might release by the end of 2021. Meaning that, those who opposed back then, might again come back for this.
But nothing can be said now, as we have seen political dramas of all kinds being streamed. From being comedy to a complete suspense thriller at times, political shows and movies have had all these sub-genres within them from time to time. It is still too early for us to guess what and how well will this show be received.
Though Jimmy Shergill has already appeared in web-series, this will be his first time with Netflix. As for director Pushpendra Nath Mishra, he already has once worked with Netflix and gave the audience a beautiful piece in the form of the comedy-drama series, “Taj Mahal 1989” streaming on Netflix.
