Even Though the pandemic has slowed down, and necessary precautions are in place, Netflix is still unable to handle the renewal of it’s shows and has cancelled two exciting web-series – ‘GLOW’ and ‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’. Netflix has cancelled around 23 TV shows this year, including the popular ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ and ‘The Society’.
Netflix had initially renewed the wrestling dramedy ‘GLOW’ for a fourth and final season and the filming for the series was on-going till the production had to be suspended mid-March due to Covid concerns. At the time of the shutdown, GLOW had completed one episode and had started working on the second during the three weekend of shooting. Due to the challenges of shooting in Los Angeles, setting up large-scale productions, hygienic issues that comes with wrestling itself, the heavy budget requirements for its cast & crew and the safety precautions needed specially for each set, the entire project was not feasible for the OTT giant, so they scrapped the fourth season of the show.
Alison Brie portrays Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress living in 80’s Los Angeles. Wilder finds an unexpected chance at stardom: enter the glamorous and spandex-laden world of women’s wrestling, where she must work alongside 12 other Hollywood misfits. Marc Maron plays the role of Sam Sylvia, a washed-up director of “B” movies who tries to lead the group of women to fame.
Similar to the reasons as ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ and ‘The Society’, the safety precautions and budgetary concerns were the main reason why the dramedy ‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’ had to be cancelled after just one season. The series synopsis is as follows – Fraternal twin sisters Blair and Sterling try to balance teen life at an elite Southern high school with an unlikely career as elite bounty hunters.
The first three seasons of ‘GLOW’ and the only season of ‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’ is streaming now on Netflix.
