With multiple A-lister acquisitions like Love Story, Most Eligible Bachelor, Ghani, Lakshya, and other Telugu biggies, Aha Video aims to expand its user base in the regional OTT market. Also the highly competitive subscription pricing is bound to help the cause. Now, Aha Video is on course to follow one of Amazon Prime Video’s models i.e, the pay-per-view model.
As per reports, Aha Video is planning to incorporate the pay-per-view model at the earliest. Through this model, production houses can host and stream their films and web series’ on Aha Video. Aha then pays them based on the total viewing minutes clocked by the film or the web series.
Up until now, Amazon Prime Video used to be one of the very few mainstream OTT platforms to use the pay-per-view model. This helped the OTT giant in vastly expanding its library as several production house, big and small, used to prefer to host their films and series’ on the platform thanks to the often rewarding pay-per-view model.
Now, Aha Video could well be following a very similar path. The OTT platform intends to initiate talks with Telugu filmmakers and in turn add more content to their library by following the pay-per-view model. This way, they can avoid the upfront payment and instead pay the production house based on the reach and interest garnered by the film or the series they produced.
While the pay-per-view model cannot be incorporated while acquiring A-lister Telugu biggies, it can bring Aha Video closer to regional filmmakers, which could help the platform in diversifying its portfolio and library.
