Artificial Intelligence (AI) is spreading fast and wide, it’s almost omnipresent in the current age. The entertainment sector is no exception and recent instances of use of AI in films and series like ‘Late Night With The Devil’, ‘Civil War’, ‘Secret Invasion’ and more goes just to proves that.
This AI usage in the sector has been receiving a lot of backlash with fear inbuilt given the threat to human factor, in essence the jobs. People are obviously threatened and for all the right reasons. AI does raise many concerns.
But is it all bad? Well, some may claim so outright but we cannot ignore advantages this technology offers. AI can analyze vast amounts of data from existing movies, books, and cultural trends to generate new and innovative storylines which might be tough to do manually.
There’s also the enhanced visuals that can be generated from AI-driven CGI and animation techniques. With the help of AI algorithms, filmmakers can gather and analyze audience data to understand preferences and behaviors better. This can further help tailor marketing campaigns, distribution strategies, and even the content itself to specific audience segments.
But it’s these very favourable factors that pose most threats too. If AI is made to do the story writing and stuff then that human touch would go missing. Moreover, it raises ethical questions surrounding intellectual property rights, creative ownership, and authenticity. When AI generates content, it can be challenging to determine who holds the rights to the work and whether it constitutes original creative expression. Overreliance on AI-generated content may result in films that feel formulaic, hollow, or devoid of genuine human connection.
Most importantly there will be job displacement leading to unemployment and economic instability within the film industry and related sectors. And that’s what is considered most dangerous when it comes to AI invading the sector.
While many are using this tempting tool, not all are ready to accept it not only because of the pubic image issues but also because the use of AI is still limited and most of the work is human dependent and nobody wants disgruntled employees.
