If you were scared of the whole AI usage by studios, imagine a streaming platform completely controlled by AI. Remember the episode of *Black Mirror* where you were introduced to Streamberry? That can soon become a reality.
There might be questions regarding whether the audience will accept it.
But let’s see what the hype is all about. If you think AI will take people’s jobs, AI might end the majority of the shows on streaming platforms—at least that’s what you can assume.
With the help of generative AI, the new AI streaming platform can create shows more easily than one can imagine. You just need to give some prompts, and it will make an episode for you.
Fable Studio, an Emmy-winning San Francisco startup, announced Showrunner, a platform capable of writing, voicing, and animating episodes autonomously.
Users can view AI-generated series and create their own content, controlling dialogue, characters, and shot types. This initiative exemplifies the tech industry’s increasing incursion into Hollywood, leveraging AI tools that are controversial for potentially streamlining production and displacing human creators.
Highlighting this, Fable released an AI-generated episode of *South Park* amid last year’s industry strikes, demonstrating both the capabilities and threats of AI in content creation, sparking debate over its impact on traditional creative labor.
“The vision is to be the Netflix of AI,” says chief executive Edward Saatchi. “Maybe you finish all of the episodes of a show you’re watching and you click the button to make another episode. You can say what it should be about or you can let the AI make it itself.”
Users can now join the waitlist for a free testing version of Fable Studio’s Showrunner platform, expected to last until year-end.
The announcement highlights 10 AI-generated animated shows, including *Exit Valley*, a Silicon Valley satire; *Ikiru Shinu*, a dark horror anime; and *Sim Francisco*, an anthology series. Although limited to animation, the platform encourages user-generated episodes, with top submissions integrated into the official series and rewarded financially.
Users can create scenes and full episodes by manipulating dialogue, shots, and scene flow. According to Saatchi, the AI can comprehend episode conflicts and develop them with additional characters or locations.
Though this will be a bit fun to play around with, this initiative will definitely benefit the audience, especially if they want to be creative. But again, there will be some major problems, especially if they can’t control it (we all know what people did with Deepfake), it will definitely be a disaster.
So, welcome to a dystopian future, everybody. If you think AI was there to write emails and drive cars, wake up now. The industry might crumble, especially with how things are going. There should be a red alert now.
